
John Miedema is the author of
Slow Reading (Litwin Books, 2009). The book is a concise review of research and concepts about the benefits of reading more slowly. The book examines the earliest references in religion and philosophy, makes connections with the Slow movement, and brings attention to emerging ideas in technology and culture. Miedema has been interviewed for articles that have appeared in the
Associated Press, the
Christian Science Monitor,
Europa, the
Guardian,
Newsweek, and the
Washington Post. He has presented on slow reading at the Salt Lake City Public Library and the Library of Congress. The book has recently been translated into Portuguese. Slow Reading is available from Litwin Books and most online bookstores.
Miedema has a Master of Library and Information Science and works as an Information Technology Architect. His current writing project examines how changes in the format of the book are changing how we read and think, and our identities. He lives in Ottawa, Canada.
